Overview

Currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a leading oilfield services company that manufactures and rents downhole drilling tools. This role would suit a candidate who has a minimum of 3 years’ design engineering experience with drilling tools.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Sustaining design: provide technical services in support of the company\’s projects and products.
  • R&D/new product design: from concept to validation.
  • Creating drawings and other engineering documents in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Verifying drawings and calculations issued by other members of the Engineering Department.
  • Approving engineering drawing, procedures and specifications.
  • Carrying out FEA, CFD and manual calculations to support existing product lines or new products.
  • Assembling and testing new and existing products.
  • Issuing testing procedures and reports.
  • Supporting workshop operations by creating work instructions and procedures.
  • Supporting workshop operations by keeping work instructions and procedures up to date.
  • Keeping project files updated in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Root cause analysis of tool failures and non-conformances.
  • Dismantling and investigating tool failures and non-conformances.
  • Defining remedial action on component non-conformances.
  • Supporting and controlling procurement and inspection of prototype components.
  • Maintaining electronic media, engineering filing system and hardware in an appropriate manner.
  • Supporting Sales and Marketing by creating relevant documentation such as renders, spec sheets and tool lay-outs.

Experience/Qualifications

  • A HND qualification (as a minimum) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or similar, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar Design Engineer type role, directly within the downhole/drilling tool field, is essential.
  • Experience in the design of downhole products is essential.
  • Experience in the design of drilling tools is essential.
  • Experience in the design of fishing tools would be preferred.
  • Experience in working with design software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, etc) is essential.
  • ANSYS experience would be highly desirable.
  • CFD experience would be preferred.
  • Applicants should be familiar with the testing and assembly of downhole tools.
