About the role

In this role, you’ll be the driving force helping us bridge the gap between exceptional legal expertise and the power of emerging technologies. You’ll work at the heart of our commercial practice, identifying opportunities to transform how we deliver services, improve client experiences, and embed AI and automation into the fabric of our work.

You’ll collaborate with lawyers, clients, and the transformation team to bring bold ideas to life — from uncovering AI use cases and developing no-code solutions to shaping future strategies that give our teams and clients a genuine competitive edge. This is about more than just tools and systems — it’s about reimagining how law is practised. It’s about:

Innovation & Strategy

  • Partnering with practice leaders and the Chief Transformation Officer to define and deliver strategic priorities.
  • Spotting opportunities for AI and technology to streamline processes, enhance service delivery, and improve client outcomes.
  • Building business cases for new solutions and ensuring they align with our overall strategy.

Project Delivery

  • Leading on transformation projects from concept to delivery — ensuring solutions are practical, impactful, and embedded.
  • Acting as the key link between lawyers, our Transformation Team, and clients.
  • Piloting AI solutions, gathering feedback, and refining to maximise value.
  • Using no-code or low-code tools to develop and maintain solutions
  • Collaborate with our AI and Data Services team to integrate or develop solutions or workflows

Client Engagement

  • Working directly with clients to identify opportunities to embed technology into their legal work.
  • Helping to craft competitive bids that showcase our tech-enabled approach.
  • Occasionally engaging in fee-earning work to fully understand and solve client challenges.

As part of our commitment to innovation, the successful candidate will contribute to Ignite Lab—a pioneering collaboration between Thorntons, the legal tech community and local universities —designed to transform legal education and practice through cutting-edge technology, multi-disciplinary learning, and real-world problem solving.

What you’ll need

  • A qualified lawyer (Scotland or England & Wales) with corporate or commercial law experience (NQ+).
  • A passion for innovation and the role technology can play in legal services.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — you can engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with LegalTech, AI, and no-code platforms, plus familiarity with the MS365 suite, process automation, and project management.
  • Skills in data analysis and visualisation (e.g., Power BI, SQL)

Your Impact

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of legal service delivery from the inside.

You’ll work on projects that make a real difference to how we work and how clients experience our services. It’s a role for someone who wants to blend legal expertise with cutting-edge technology and isn’t afraid to challenge “the way things have always been done.”

If you’re a lawyer who thrives on solving problems, exploring new ideas, and turning them into real-world change — we’d love to hear from you.
