An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.

The Role

Thornton Tomasetti is seeking an experienced Senior Façade Engineer to join our Façade Forensic team. This individual will support the expansion of our façade investigation services and will assist our façade experts in new litigation assignments including preparation of technical reports, site investigations and defect identification. We aim to provide the successful candidate with appropriate training and experience to allow them to develop their skills as a façade forensic expert so that they can eventually take the role of lead expert. For this role you will have an interest in the investigation of façade defects and the ability to prepare detailed technical reports to convey potentially complex engineering topics in a manner that can be understood by those without any technical knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate technical project teams for façade investigations, including structural failure, material failure, water intrusion, etc.
  • Contribute to business development activities in the fields of litigation and insurance.
  • Assist with managing, training, and mentoring junior staff who are assisting with forensic tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to project sites.

Requirements

  • Accredited degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional registration/licensure is preferred.
  • More than 5 years of experience providing façade consulting services for large building projects (such as high-rises, airports, museums, government facilities, etc.)
  • Experience should be demonstrated in both the design phase and construction phase.
  • Experience of site inspections and investigations would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of field investigation methods and data collection.
  • Employment experience with a specialist façade contractor or a PMU test laboratory would also be considered.
  • Technical experience with contemporary façade systems, such as unitised curtain walls, cladding systems, structural glass walls, gridshell structures, ETFE pillows, tensile fabric structures, precast concrete panels, etc.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Approved Documents and industry specific guidance for facades.
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills and experience with technical writing.
  • Prior authorship of forensic reports would be a plus.
