This is an exciting opportunity for a Salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and successful practice. You will have the chance to drive the service forward and focus on special interests. We are a GMS practice based in the City of Worcester which is vibrant and historic with great motorway access and excellent housing. We pride ourselves in modern high-quality care with great patient continuity whilst maintaining traditional values. We are looking between 6 to 8 sessions per week. Days to be confirmed.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide general medical services focusing on a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

About us

We are a thriving and friendly General Medical Practice, well established within the community with a growing Registered Patient List size of over 11,700. We have a supportive clinical team consisting of three Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, a locum ANP, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and a Physician Associate. In addition, we have three Practice Nurses and a HCA. We also have supportive management, administrative and reception teams. The practice is an active member of Worcester City Primary Care Network, proudly serving over 126,000 patients across the City.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The practice offers face-to-face, telephone and home visit appointments. We have pre-bookable appointments and on the day. There will be a requirement to contribute to extended opening appointments. In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing off repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in an appropriate timescale. There will also be a share of On Call and Extended Hours duties.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health. Providing counselling and health education. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions. Prescribing in accordance with the practice-based system, SwitchScript (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate. Contribute to successful achievement of the Quality Outcomes Framework and to additional service obligations such as IQSP and Promoting Clinical Excellence. In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety. A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice. Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation. Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data. Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Other duties

The post-holder may, from time-to-time, be asked to undertake other reasonable duties, with appropriate training. It is important that all members of staff are flexible and prepared to undertake additional or relinquish current duties to maintain service delivery to patients. It is expected that requests from the Partners will not be unreasonably refused.

COVID-19

Employment is undertaken at a time when we are in a national pandemic presenting uncharted territory with regard to employment. There may be times when changes will be made at short notice or employees may be asked to work at other sites or outside of their normal working hours.
