We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Treatment Room Nurse to join our hard working team. It is an excellent opportunity for a registered Nurse who wants to advance their career in a busy primary care setting. Our Nurses have a varied and interesting workload, dealing with patients either face to face, by telephone or by video consultation. The postholder will provide care and treatment for presenting patients and work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, ensuring that practice policies and procedures are followed.

Please note: This position is funded through the NHS Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS). Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the ARRS at the point of appointment, and the offer of employment will be subject to confirmation that the successful candidate satisfies the relevant NHS England ARRS criteria.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, patient centered nursing care within a busy general practice.
  • Undertake a wide range of treatment room procedures, including wound care and dressings, suture and clip removal, ear irrigation (where appropriately trained), injections and vaccinations.
  • Deliver NHS immunisation programmes, including seasonal influenza, pneumococcal, shingles and travel vaccinations (where competent).
  • Perform cervical screening in accordance with the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.
  • Provide health promotion and lifestyle advice to patients.
  • Undertake NHS Health Checks and other preventative health assessments as required.
  • Perform blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, urinalysis and other routine clinical observations.
  • Support the management of patients with long-term conditions through monitoring, recall and agreed protocols, working within scope of practice.
  • Recognise, assess and respond appropriately to patients presenting with acute or deteriorating conditions, escalating concerns where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using our clinical system.
  • Work within infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Maintain clinical equipment, monitor stock levels and support the ordering of clinical supplies where required.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the practice team.

Thornaby & Barwick Medical Group provides care to approximately 21,000 patients across two practice sites, located in Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick. Our diverse patient population ensures no two days are the same, offering an engaging and rewarding role with a varied clinical workload. We are an experienced training practice with six GP partners, supported by our wonderful nursing team and resilient reception and admin teams. We also work as part of BYTES Primary Care Network, which is made up of 4 GP practices working in partnership.

Job responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care to patients within the practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and service development.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, General Practice Assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services and other contractual requirements where appropriate.
  • Maintain professional registration, mandatory training and continuing professional development in line with NMC requirements.
  • Work in accordance with practice policies, procedures, national guidance and the NMC Code at all times.
  • Undertake early detection, prevention, and management of cardiovascular disease and other long-term conditions.
