Thorn Baker Industrial Recruitment are looking for an experienced Inventory & Purchasing Coordinator for a leading Leicestershire based food manufacturer. This role will require you to work on the raw materials side of the business.
Job Purpose
The role is responsible for ensuring that raw materials and consumables are available when needed in the bakeries, maintaining accurate stock records and complying with food safety, quality, and traceability requirements. The role combines stock control with day-to-day purchasing, working closely with Production, Technical, and NPD.
Pay & Benefits
This is a permanent position direct with our client. Starting salary of £35,000 per annum. Working Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. On site parking.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate stock records and the packaging forecast.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure availability while minimising excess and waste.
- Carry out regular stock counts and investigations, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Support site traceability exercises, stock reconciliations, and audits.
- Identify and report slow‑moving, short‑dated, or at‑risk stock.
- Manage and develop supplier relationships, evaluate supplier pricing and negotiations.
- Raise purchase orders in line with agreed suppliers, specifications, and contracts.
- Ensure materials are ordered in line with production plans and forecast demand.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding deliveries, shortages, delays, or quality issues.
- Confirm delivery dates and quantities to avoid production disruption.
- Compare items received and invoices against items ordered and pricing.
- Ensure all materials meet food safety, quality, and allergen requirements.
- Liaise with the NPD team in relation to introducing new raw materials and products.
- Monthly reporting of performance versus KPIs.
- Continuous improvement projects.
- Carry out any reasonable request made by your manager.
The person
- Experience in stock control, inventory management, purchasing, or supply coordination.
- Experience working in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment preferred, but not essential.
- Good understanding of stock accuracy, ordering processes, and supplier relations.
- Confident using computer systems and spreadsheets.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced food production environment.
