The Joinery Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all workshop operations related to the manufacture of bespoke joinery products. This role ensures that production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, materials and resources are effectively managed, and the team operates safely and efficiently. The Production Manager acts as the key liaison between design, estimating, procurement, and installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management
- Plan, organize, and oversee all joinery production activities to meet delivery deadlines and project requirements.
- Develop and implement production schedules based on the project pipeline, ensuring efficient use of labor and materials.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, and output quality to maintain standards and identify areas for process improvement.
- Lead daily production meetings to review progress, address challenges, and allocate resources.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of joiners, machinists, finishers, and apprentices.
- Manage recruitment, training, and development of workshop staff.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure high standards of craftsmanship and discipline.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, team collaboration, and safe working practices.
- Quality Assurance & Health & Safety
- Enforce quality control measures to ensure all products meet design specifications and client expectations.
- Conduct inspections at key production stages to prevent errors or rework.
- Maintain compliance with all health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety awareness.
- Ensure all equipment and tools are properly maintained and fit for use.
- Materials & Resource Management
- Oversee procurement of timber, sheet materials, hardware, and finishes in coordination with the purchasing department.
- Manage stock control, minimize waste, and ensure timely availability of materials.
- Track production costs and assist in budgeting and cost planning.
- Communication & Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, designers, and site managers to clarify technical details and design intent.
- Provide feedback to design and estimation teams to improve accuracy and manufacturability.
- Prepare progress reports and production updates for senior management.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent woodworking knowledge and technical understanding of bespoke joinery manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with workshop machinery, tooling, and modern joinery techniques.
- Working knowledge of production management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5β7 yearsβ experience in a joinery production environment, with at least 2β3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Carpentry & Joinery (preferred).
- Experience managing both bespoke and batch production environments.
- Proven track record in managing complex, high-spec projects (e.g., commercial interiors, luxury residential, or retail fit-out).
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing systems (e.g., CNC processes) is advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (if applicable).
- Flexibility to work overtime or visit project sites when required.
