About Us
Thorn Baker are working with a growing retail fit-out and construction business delivering refurbishment, rollout, and new store projects for leading retail brands across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with client-side retail fit-out experience to join our commercial team. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded QS looking to take ownership of projects within a fast-paced retail environment while working closely with key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of multiple retail fit-out and refurbishment projects across the UK. You will play a key role in cost management, procurement, contractor performance, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans, and forecasts.
- Review contractor quotations, tenders, and pricing submissions.
- Manage procurement activities and support contractor appointments.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Assess variations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
- Produce accurate commercial reports and cost updates.
- Support project teams in achieving budget and programme objectives.
- Build strong working relationships with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure commercial risks are identified and effectively managed.
- Assist with continuous improvement of commercial processes and controls.
About You
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within retail fit-out, shopfitting, commercial interiors, or refurbishment projects.
- Client-side experience is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management principles.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Full UK driving licence.
