Thorn Baker have the exciting opportunity to recruit for an Operational Training & Service Support Manager for a globally recognised company.
About the Role:
To ensure operational resilience, compliance, and cost efficiency by delivering in‑house training for FLT (Forklift Truck), MHE, PIT, and associated machinery. This role is critical for maintaining service continuity, reducing downtime, while supporting peak readiness across the network. The role will support the on-site managers for all equipment training, checks & compliance monitoring with the intention of reducing spend on machinery maintenance & upskilling teams across the network improving performance & productivity of both machines & teams.
Information about the role:
- £38,000 - £40,000 per annum starting salary
- Home working or you can base yourself out of one of the warehouses should you live close by
- 8:00am - 17:00pm however hours may vary depending on which site you are based on that day
- 25 days annual leave

Role and Responsibilities:
- Deliver training programs for forklift trucks and other material handling equipment.
- Act as Machine Specialist for operational equipment, including Cleaning Machines, Compactors and Bailers.
- Support Train‑the‑Trainer programs and mentor site managers.
- Supervise trainees during practical assessments to ensure correct and safe operation.
- Identify training needs and recommend improvements to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
- Conduct Safety Observations and implement remedial actions.
- Conduct practical and theoretical assessments to ensure trainees meet company and legal standards.
- Maintain accurate training records and certification documentation.
- Keep up to date with relevant health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Promote a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with all safety policies.
- Assist in the onboarding process for new colleagues requiring forklift or MHE training.
- Perform Dynamic Risk Assessments and manage incident response training.
- Assist with incident support & remedial actions - supporting ER process when required.
- Assist with Change Management and project implementation.
- Travel flexibly across sites and shifts to meet operational needs.
- Incident management & response, you will be responsible for supporting the investigation of all MHE related incidents to determine root cause & identify necessary remedial actions working with the client to ensure all actions are closed out keeping our sites & teams safe.
Essential Qualifications:
- Certified FLT / MHE / PIT Trainer (AITT or equivalent).
- Train‑the‑Trainer accreditation.
- Health & Safety Level 3 or equivalent.
- Clean UK Driving License is ESSENTIAL as you will be required to drive to all sites required to provide training.
- NEBOSH (desirable)
