We are seeking reliable and motivated Class 2 Bin Lorry Drivers to join our team. This role plays a vital part in maintaining cleanliness and sustainability in the community by ensuring efficient waste collection services. The ideal candidate will be an experienced HGV driver with a focus on safety, teamwork, and customer care. Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class 2 Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) to carry out scheduled refuse and recycling collection services.
- Work collaboratively with waste collection crews to ensure timely and efficient completion of daily routes.
- Adhere to all road safety regulations, company policies, and procedures to guarantee a safe working environment.
- Maintain and inspect vehicles before and after use, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Assist team members with loading and unloading waste containers when required.
- Interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner, representing the company positively.
- Complete and maintain all necessary documentation, including CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and Digi Tacho records.
- Contribute to sustainability goals by adhering to best practices for waste management and recycling.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- A valid Class 2 HGV Driving Licence (Category C, no more than 9 penalty points & no ex-DRs)
- Up-to-date CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) card.
- Valid Digital Tachograph (Digi Tacho) card.
- Proven experience in commercial or refuse collection driving (DESIRABLE)
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of waste collection practices and safe driving principles (DESIRABLE)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Good communication skills and a respectful attitude towards colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
- Basic understanding of local transportation routes and regulations.
Preferred but not required:
- Previous experience in waste management or environmental services.
- Knowledge of recycling practices and sustainability concepts.
Day-to-Day
- Begin the shift by conducting a thorough vehicle check to ensure operational safety.
- Follow assigned routes to collect household and commercial waste, ensuring adherence to schedules.
- Safely maneuver HGVs through urban and rural areas, navigating traffic, narrow streets, and variable weather conditions.
- Support the waste collection crew with loading activities, if necessary.
- Use tachograph equipment and update working hour records accurately.
- Communicate any vehicle or operational issues to the maintenance team or shift supervisor.
- Complete post-shift vehicle inspections and prepare vehicles for the next shift.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and collaborative work environment where inclusion and respect are prioritized.
The basic shift is 07:00-15:00 Monday to Friday.
The basic pay is £15.96/h.
