Thorn Baker is recruiting 2 Grounds Maintenance Operatives to join a local council's Green Spaces team in Ilkeston. This is a great opportunity for experienced operatives who are confident working across a variety of outdoor environments, helping maintain high standards across public spaces.

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00, Friday: 07:30 – 12:30

Pay: Weeks 0–12: £12.71 per hour, Weeks 13–52: £13.26 per hour, Weeks 52+: £13.47 per hour

Duties include:

  • Grass cutting across highways, open spaces, and cemeteries
  • Operating pedestrian and ride‑on mowers (rotary and cylinder)
  • Using strimmers, hedge cutters, and other grounds maintenance equipment
  • General upkeep of public green spaces
  • Working safely and efficiently as part of a team

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in grounds maintenance or similar outdoor roles
  • PA1/PA6 certification (preferred)
  • Competence using mowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters
  • Chainsaw certification (desirable)
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
  • Reliable, safety‑conscious, and a good team player
