The Opportunity

A well-established and highly respected regional main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Wolverhampton. The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with the project team, clients, consultants and supply chain. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking commercial ownership of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Managing project costs, budgets and forecasts.
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly valuations and applications for payment.
  • Managing variations, change control and compensation events.
  • Preparing and agreeing final accounts.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, payments and accounts.
  • Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor quotations.
  • Monitoring project expenditure against budget.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Preparing monthly cost and value reports.
  • Supporting project teams with commercial and contractual advice.
  • Managing contractual notices and relevant project correspondence.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Working closely with Estimating and Pre-Construction teams during the tender and handover process.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor.
  • A strong background within the construction industry.
  • Experience managing projects from pre-construction through to final account.
  • Experience working across sectors such as education, healthcare, leisure, commercial or residential.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and the wider supply chain.
  • Excellent cost control, forecasting and reporting skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • The ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • A proactive and commercially focused approach.
  • The confidence to work independently while being part of a wider project team.
  • A relevant Quantity Surveying/Commercial qualification would be advantageous.
