THOR Chemicals is a globally recognised speciality chemicals group, founded in 1959, and headquartered in Wincham, Cheshire. Privately owned and independent, THOR has grown steadily over more than six decades into a business with operations across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australasia, supplying customers in over 70 countries worldwide.

Operating through 15 sites globally, THOR has five large manufacturing plants situated in the UK, Germany, Spain, China and Mexico, with an additional two blending plants in Malaysia and Brazil. These are modern and well-invested sites, each possessing their own local HSE teams, who report to the local site leaders.

In 2024, THOR delivered an annual turnover of €648m, and an EBITDA of €145m. With a strong balance sheet and no debt, the Group is in a very stable financial position. It is well-positioned to grow its market share in each of its main markets, as an R&D-led, solutions driven manufacturing business – with highly ambitious growth targets.

The Group HSE Manager is responsible for defining, leading, and continuously improving the global Health, Safety & Environment strategy across all international sites of the Group. The role ensures full compliance with global regulatory frameworks – including COMAH/Seveso, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 – while driving a proactive, risk-based safety culture aligned with the Group’s operational goals and sustainability commitments.

Reporting to the Board, this is a senior role, with direct influence at senior leadership level, accountable for embedding world class HSE governance, performance improvement, and risk management across a diverse, multi-site, high hazard chemical manufacturing environment. The role requires influencing and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure compliance, enhance safety culture, improve overall HSE performance, risk management, auditing, and incident investigation.

THOR is seeking a proven HSE leader, with a track record of success in leading and developing an effective HSE strategy within a multi-site chemicals manufacturing environment. Experience within related, regulated Process Industries sectors, such as Oil & Gas, Waste-to-Energy, Nuclear, and Pharmaceuticals will also be considered.

Degree level qualification in chemistry/chemical engineering or closely related scientific discipline. Health & Safety Qualification desirable – NEBOSH/CSP or equivalent. 10 Years’ experience of active engagement with COMAH/SEVESO at Upper Tier level & Environmental Permitting Regulations, with at least five years in a global or multi-site role.

Excellent knowledge of international HSE regulations/standards, you will possess strong communication, influencing and leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in diverse cultural environments.
