We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of several construction projects within an active quarry environment. The role is responsible for managing all aspects of project execution including planning, health & safety, commercial performance, subcontractor coordination, programme delivery, and stakeholder management from initial mobilisation through commissioning and handover. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civils, industrial construction, quarry infrastructure, and asphalt plant installations, with proven experience managing complex multi‑disciplinary projects in high‑risk operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery
- Lead the full lifecycle delivery of civils and asphalt plant build projects within operational quarry sites.
- Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring milestones, budgets, and quality standards are achieved.
- Coordinate all site activities including earthworks, drainage, reinforced concrete works, foundations, retaining structures, roads, utilities, weighbridges, and plant installation interfaces.
- Manage procurement of materials, subcontractors, and specialist plant suppliers.
- Oversee commissioning activities and final project handover.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Ensure compliance with UK health & safety legislation including CDM Regulations and quarry‑specific safety requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all contractors and site personnel.
- Review and approve RAMS, permits to work, lifting plans, and temporary works procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure environmental controls are maintained regarding dust suppression, fuel handling, noise, drainage, and waste management.
- Commercial & Contract Management
- Monitor project costs, forecasts, variations, and valuations against approved budgets.
- Administer NEC/JCT contracts and manage subcontractor performance.
- Support commercial teams with claims, change management, and cost reporting.
- Prepare progress reports for senior management and clients.
- Stakeholder & Team Management
- Liaise with quarry operators, statutory authorities, consultants, and principal contractors.
- Lead site management teams including engineers, supervisors, HSEQ personnel, and subcontractors.
- Chair progress meetings and coordinate design, construction, and operational interfaces.
- Maintain effective communication with clients and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Quality Assurance
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
- Manage inspection and test plans (ITPs), QA documentation, and as‑built records.
- Coordinate snagging, defect resolution, and final certification.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering heavy civils or industrial construction projects.
- Experience working in quarry, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, mining, or process plant environments.
- Strong understanding of:
- Earthworks and reinforced concrete construction
- Industrial plant installation interfaces
- Temporary works and lifting operations
- CDM Regulations and UK HSE requirements
- Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commercial awareness with budget and programme management capability.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Project and Office Suite.
Desirable
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- SMSTS certification.
- CSCS Black Card.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- APMP or PMP qualification.
- Experience with asphalt plants, batch plants, conveyors, silos, or material processing equipment.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts.
