We are seeking a Manager, Research Engineering with the skills and drive to manage a top performing Engineering team focused on developing the latest in large language models (LLMs) and Machine Learning capabilities.

Foundational Research

Foundational Research is the dedicated core Machine Learning research division of Thomson Reuters. We are focused on research and development, with a particular focus on advanced algorithms and training techniques for LLMs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction for production services.
  • Partner closely with technology partners across the enterprise.
  • Recruit, grow, and mentor Foundational Research Engineers.
  • Offer technical guidance on medium to complex projects in collaboration with the research arm of Labs.
  • Advocate for industry best practices around well‑managed software delivery.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Own the delivery of business‑critical features for high‑value, customer‑facing applications.
  • Promote efficient collaboration between scientists and engineers on a project basis.
  • Operate with urgency and manage change at a rapid pace.
  • Coach engineering leads within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or equivalent; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years managing software development teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience spearheading technical development in a cross‑functional setting with responsibility for ML applications.
  • Portfolio showcasing significant contributions to technology innovation.
  • Excellent project management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to and overseeing large‑scale rollouts and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Expertise in robust Python development, MLOps, containerization, cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure), advanced search and recommendation technology, orchestration of ML pipelines for real‑time inference, microservices architecture, model monitoring and governance.
