Leading international law firm are looking to hire a Property Energy Lawyer to join their high ranking team based in Scotland.

The Property Energy subteam is based within the Development & Investment team and is part of a wider UK National Property Group- The role can be based at either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Role Profile:

The team is one of the largest groups of property lawyers in the UK who are dedicated to supporting the Energy Sector, including many renowned experts. The firm\’s depth and breadth of experience coupled with specialist knowledge means that whether they are advising on a major offshore wind farm or a portfolio of EV charging stations, their clients receive the legal support they require, when and how they want it.

Lawyers joining this friendly and dynamic UK-wide team will encounter a broad range of energy property work, acting for a range of high-profile clients on large and nationally significant energy transactions. In particular the successful candidate will work on wind (on and offshore), solar, hydrogen, carbon capture, battery storage and nuclear transactions , acting for a mix of clients, including public authorities, developers, investors, funders and utility companies. Whilst the successful candidate will sit within the specialist Energy Property subteam within our Development & Investment team (which is part of our UK national Property Group), they will also have close links to the global, multi-disciplinary sector team, energy being one of their Global Sectors.

Work Highlights

  • Advising bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Limited (a joint venture between bp International Limited and Aberdeen City Council) on the property aspects of their green hydrogen project comprising a facility for the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen powered by a ground mounted solar farm located nearby.
  • Advised the shareholders of the 576 MW Awel Y Môr Offshore Wind Farm project (RWE/SWM/Siemens/GIG). This included agreements with the neighbouring Gwynt Y Môr offshore wind farm on compensation for production losses, the terms of the grid connection and the lease agreements for the project.
  • Advising the project promoter on all property aspects of a major carbon capture, utilisation and storage project in the UK.
  • Advising Tesco Stores Limited on the lease arrangements with various suppliers for the roll out of roof top solar on Tesco\’s portfolio of stores in the UK as part of Tesco\’s pathway to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2035.
  • Advised Cory Environmental Limited on the property aspects of its 96MW Riverside Energy Park on the banks of the River Thames which will include waste energy recovery, waste anaerobic digestion, battery storage and solar generation and associated electrical connections.

Candidate Requirements:

  • You will ideally have circa 1-3 years’ PQE and are admitted and qualified in Scotland and/or England & Wales and have experience of the property aspects of energy projects.
  • Candidates must also be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and enthusiastic about, and demonstrate a track record of, business development. They will be a team player with a strong client focussed approach.
