Thomson Environmental Consultants is seeking a capable, commercially aware Project Manager with 3–4 years' experience working with NEC4 contracts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to step into a leadership role while continuing to grow their career within a supportive and expanding environmental consultancy.

You will manage and deliver environmental projects, particularly in habitat creation and arboriculture. You’ll be involved in every stage—from pricing and planning to site delivery, change control, and client reporting. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely on time, and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance under NEC4 contractual obligations.

You will be responsible for tracking project performance across cost, schedule, and risk. You will play a lead role in managing programmes, assessing impacts to the critical path, and handling change through Early Warning Notices (EWNs), Compensation Events (CEs), and proactive stakeholder engagement—particularly in public sector frameworks where clarity and responsiveness are essential.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of environmental projects using NEC4 contracts.
  • Support commercial performance: margin tracking, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Prepare and manage project programmes, key milestones, and resource plans.
  • Liaise with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors to ensure alignment and delivery.
  • Manage change, compensation events, early warnings, and risk registers in accordance with NEC4.
  • Conduct site visits and oversee project execution as required.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, RAMS, and progress reports.
  • Track and report project performance including risk, cost, and schedule metrics.
  • Lead the preparation and management of Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events.

This position will provide a supportive environment to develop your project management career with exposure to a variety of environmental, ecological, and arboricultural projects.

Salary: up to £48,000 per annum, dependent on skillset.

Requirements:

  • Have 3–4 years of experience in a Project Management or Assistant PM role delivering projects under NEC4.
  • Have strong working knowledge of NEC4 contractual procedures (Option A/B).
  • Have experience in environmental projects, construction, civil engineering, or arboriculture is desirable.
  • Be a proactive communicator with good stakeholder management skills.
  • Be competent in scheduling tools (MS Project or equivalent) and financial reporting (CVRs, budgeting).
  • Be organised, commercially aware, and capable of leading multidisciplinary teams.
