Thompson's Gallery is offering a unique paid work experience opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Gallery Associate at our Aldeburgh gallery in Suffolk. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest and education in contemporary and modern art and a desire to develop a career in the arts sector.
The ideal candidate must have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work, with a willingness to learn
- A professional and confident manner when interacting with artists, clients, and colleagues
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a busy environment
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with social media platforms
A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential. Previous gallery or arts experience is welcomed but not required.
Salary: Competitive, in line with National Minimum Wage (pro rata)
Working days: Tuesday-Saturday

Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with exhibition preparation, installation, and de-installation, including the safe handling of artworks
- Provide front-of-house support and assist with client enquiries, both in person and online
- Help coordinate artwork sales, including preparing documentation, arranging transport, and liaising with clients
- Maintain accurate artwork inventory, client records, and gallery databases
- Assist with artist liaison, exhibition planning, and gallery communications
- Support the production of exhibition catalogues, marketing materials, and press releases
- Contribute to the management of the gallery's website and social media channels
- Assist with private views, events, and art fair preparations
- Accompany team members on artist studio visits and client meetings where appropriate
- Undertake general administrative duties to support the wider gallery team
