A Machinist at Thompson Aero Seating is a skilled operator with an extensive knowledge of CNC machining processes and programming. They will be integral for shop floor problem solving and improvements while also conducting program prove outs in line with the Final Article Inspection (FAI) process. A keen eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude are also essential. Responsible for operating a number of CNC Machines / Vacuum Forming Machines, ensuring that all products are produced to the required specifications with a focus on quality standards, ensuring that targets are consistently met. This role is for night shift from 19:30 - 07:30 continental shift pattern in the Machine Shop.
Responsibilities
- Operate several CNC Machines/ Vacuum Forming Machines to produce high quality components, ensuring that production deadlines are met, efficiently, safely and to appropriate quality standards.
- Liaise with the Technical Lead to discuss improvements to add value to the machining / forming process.
- Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality and liaise with the Technical Lead with any machine issues that affect quality and production.
- Understand specifications of the task at hand using engineering drawings.
- Inspect and measure finished products and determine if the process has been completed properly.
- Liaise with Lead/Manager to ensure high standards of work and on time delivery in accordance with the business needs.
- Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean and safe workplace.
- Ensure Health & Safety standards are adhered to.
- Escalate issues to management as required.
- Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with quality and safety regulations.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient work area.

Requirements
- Essential 2+ years’ experience of 3 or 5 Axis Machines / Vacuum Forming (GEISS/ CMS) or 5 Axis Trimming Machines, including tooling and rooter machines.
- CNC Experience.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Problem solving skills with a focus on process improvements.
- Team player.
- Good working knowledge of FANUC or Heidenhain CNC control.
- Good working knowledge of VAC forming techniques or FANUC CNC control.
