We are an established and growing accountancy practice based in Shirley, and we are looking for a motivated Bookkeeper to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in practice bookkeeping, looking to work in a supportive and flexible environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate bookkeeping services to a portfolio of clients across various industries, assisting in the preparation of VAT returns, and supporting the wider accounts team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple clients
  • Process and reconcile bank transactions, sales, and purchase ledgers
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with current HMRC regulations
  • Liaise directly with clients to request information and resolve queries
  • Assist with management accounts and year-end accounts preparation
  • Use cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
  • Support clients with bookkeeping queries and software use where needed
  • Maintain excellent communication and relationships with clients and team members

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a bookkeeping role, preferably within an accountancy practice
  • Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Experience with cloud-based systems and apps (e.g. Dext, Hubdoc, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance
