As a Rotary Wing Flight Test Engineer at MOD Boscombe Down, you will harness your expertise to deliver high quality instruction on a wide range of topics to aspiring flight test professionals.

Day-to-day, your instruction and teaching abilities will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of world class training to a wide range of students from around the world, while also contributing to a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team of highly qualified Flight Test Engineer Instructors (FTEIs), Test Pilot instructors (TPIs), and Theoretical Knowledge Instructors (TKIs).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering and developing a range of long course and short course ground instruction and some in-flight instructional delivery to both Test Pilot and Flight Test Engineer students.
  • Assessing and grading ETPS student flying and reporting standards as well as mentoring and providing constructive debriefing/feedback, thereby enhancing flight safety and accelerating learning.
  • Contributing to the course development and modernisation of the ETPS course syllabuses and driving continuous improvement.

Essential experience of the Rotary Wing Flight Test Engineer:

  • You will possess broad and extensive experience within the flight test community.
  • You will have the ability to teach on the ground and instruct in the air (FTEIs teach alongside TPIs in some airborne sorties) and possess the ability to clarify subject material that is inherently complex so that students of all nationalities can understand and then apply the associated principles.
  • You will have a sound knowledge of aircraft performance, systems and stability & control and their testing, together with skilled use of typical software for the analysis and reporting of data in the flight test environment.
  • Experience of the UK MoD's Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).

Essential qualifications for the Rotary Wing Flight Test Engineer:

  • Graduate Rotary Wing Flight Test Engineer from one of the 4 UK MoD-recognised Test Pilot Schools (ETPS, USNTPS, USAFTPS or EPNER) or equivalent standard thereof.
  • You have an Engineering or Science degree coupled with at least 3 years actively working as a LFTE or equivalent on a range of significant modern rotary wing flight test programmes.
  • Medically fit to gain a CAA Class 1 Medical.
