We are currently working in partnership with a leading national logistics organisation who are looking to appoint a Transport Operations Manager to be based onsite with a key customer. This is a highly visible, customer-facing role where you will act as the operational lead on site, managing day-to-day transport activity.
The Role
As Transport Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing onsite transport operations, managing a small team of drivers and an administrator, and ensuring the smooth delivery of goods via both internal and subcontracted fleets. This role is heavily focused on customer relationship management, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to manage issues in real-time while maintaining excellent service levels.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the onsite representative for the logistics provider, maintaining a professional and customer-focused presence at all times
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with the onsite customer and wider transport teams
- Manage and oversee a small team of internal drivers, providing daily support, guidance, and communication
- Act as the key point of contact for drivers throughout the day, ensuring clarity on routes, loads, and expectations
- Manage an onsite Supervisor and Logistics Coordinator, supporting daily operational activities
- Oversee and coordinate subcontractor transport providers, ensuring timely arrivals and departures, compliance with delivery requirements and accurate and complete documentation
- Proactively manage and resolve any delivery or operational issues, ensuring minimal disruption to service
- Handle all transport-related documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance both pre- and post-delivery
- Liaise with central planning teams (based at head office) to ensure alignment with operational execution
- Continuously look for ways to improve service levels, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Experience & Skills Required
- Previous experience of working in a Senior Transport Operations / Transport Management role
- Strong experience of managing drivers and subcontracted logistics providers
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working within a logistics, distribution, or supply chain environment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to operational challenges
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with transport documentation and compliance
- Confident working in a highly visible, customer-facing role
