We’re working with a well-established, high-performing FMCG manufacturing business in Port Talbot who are looking to strengthen their engineering team with the addition of a Mechanical Engineer. This is a hands-on, shift-based role where you’ll play a key part in keeping production running efficiently, minimising downtime, in a fast-paced environment where engineers are trusted to take ownership, think proactively, and respond quickly to challenges on site.
Shift Pattern
- This role operates on a Panama (Continental) shift pattern, rotating between days and nights: 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off
- Alternating weekly between days and nights
- This offers a strong work-life balance with regular extended time off.

Role Responsibilities:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across site machinery
- Responding to mechanical breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise downtime
- Diagnosing faults and implementing robust, long-term fixes
- Supporting continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and suggesting solutions
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and reports
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health & safety and site compliance standards
- Working closely with production and other departments to keep operations running smoothly
Essential Skills & Experience:
- MUST have at least an NVQ Level 3/ City & Guilds Level 3 or HNC/ HND in Mechanical Engineering
- Must have proven experience of working within a mechanical maintenance role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong background in breakdown response and fault finding
- Knowledge of pneumatics and diagnostics
- A hands-on approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
- Good communication skills with the ability to liaise across departments
