About the Company

Our client is one of the UK’s largest suppliers and a premier provider of heavy-duty ground protection and access solutions for sale and hire nationwide. They are a highly respected supplier to major sectors including construction, energy, and utilities.

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Yard Manager to oversee day-to-day operations at a key depot in Stratford-upon-Avon. The successful candidate will lead from the front, working alongside a small team of Yard Operatives and remaining actively involved in physical, daily yard duties. The role is physically demanding and labour-intensive, involving outdoor work in all weather conditions (including the manual cleaning of hire equipment).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily yard operations, ensuring high standards of efficiency, safety, and security.
  • Drive and operate telehandlers to load and offload articulated vehicles safely.
  • Lead the sorting and manual cleaning of hire and used equipment outdoors.
  • Directly manage Yard Operatives, including handling day-to-day performance, conducting reviews, and managing holiday schedules.
  • Liaise with temp agencies for extra cover when required.
  • Maintain strict stock management, oversee regular stock checks, and ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Arrange servicing for telehandlers and yard equipment; monitor fuel levels and coordinate waste management (skip changes).
  • Maintain accurate operational paperwork, manage basic Excel/Outlook tasks, and obtain quotes for yard consumables.
  • Provide regular performance, staffing, and stock updates to senior management.

Essential Requirements

  • Substantial experience operating telehandlers within a commercial yard or construction environment (current valid licence is essential).
  • A proven track record of managing or supervising operational teams over a sustained period in a similar yard-based role.
  • Experience handling construction-related or hire-based products.
  • A sound understanding of basic HR processes and employee management.
  • Ability to use Outlook and manage basic Excel spreadsheets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team management.
  • Physically fit, reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a heavily labour-intensive role outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Full UK driving licence.
