To assist with underwriting the UK War Risks portfolio and provide underwriting support to the Senior Underwriter, Development Underwriter and Chief Underwriting Officer.
Roles and responsibilities
- Develop thorough knowledge of the Club’s cover and Rules.
- Ensure in-depth knowledge of underwriting guidelines/instructions and adhere to them in every respect.
- Maintain suitable records to demonstrate adherence to underwriting guidelines and parameters, and management sign off where required.
- Draft new Member profiles for new entries for review and sign off.
- Direct dealings with Brokers and Members on day-to-day underwriting issues.
- Develop knowledge of wider war insurance market – providers, coverage offered.
- Develop ability to offer advice to Members and Brokers in relation to war insurance coverage.
- Be proactive in both increasing production of new business enquiries and retention of existing Members, in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Provide underwriting quotation and terms to new and existing members subject to relevant sign off.
- Maintain frequent dialogue with claims colleagues regarding claims developments.
- Co-ordination and organisation of all underwriting matters including preparation of quotations, cover confirmations and documentation.
- Ensure swift turnaround of all underwriting enquiries and new business enquiries, giving priority to key accounts and key targets.
- Ensure all underwriting administration is performed quickly and accurately, that documentation is correct and issued within a timely fashion.
- Ensure all member and entry details held on the systems are up to date.
- Assist Finance colleagues with credit control activities.
Person specification
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, curiosity and a desire to learn.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach, offering to take on tasks, identify projects.
- 18 months’ minimum marine (preferably war) insurance experience.
- Willing to work towards CII qualification.
- Knowledge of the marine mutual sector an advantage.
- Strong team working skills.
- A high standard of technology skills is required particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Additional requirements
- Based in London office but be willing and able to travel if required.
