Thomas Miller Claims Management (TMCM) is a unique marine risk management consultancy providing marine claims handling, adjusting and operational support services to its clients in the marine, transport and general commercial business sectors.

Reports to: Claims Director

Working Arrangements: Newcastle, full-time Monday – Friday, some flexible working may be required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Competently manage a varied caseload of claims and communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Investigate, analyse, assess, negotiate and settle claims within operational guidelines.
  • Develop productive relations with clients.
  • Engage with internal and external networks as required.
  • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure effective management of claims.
  • Deal with all clients’ queries effectively to demonstrate visibility, high levels of customer service and empathy.
  • Exchange relevant information within TMCM and secure contribution towards optimum case results.
  • Take part in mediation, arbitration and other judicial processes on behalf of the clients to facilitate the most appropriate outcome(s).
  • Ensure management is kept appraised where necessary of day‑to‑day claims related matters and take a proactive role in loss prevention.
  • Provide regular verbal and written reports to management and other stakeholders as required.
  • Undertake annual and interim performance reviews of staff and other line management responsibilities.

Person Specification:

  • Significant experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate and implement knowledge.
  • Demonstrable team focus in both face‑to‑face and virtual environments.
  • Able to demonstrate networking and relationship management skills.
  • Willingness to embrace change.
  • Enthusiastic and self‑motivated and of sound judgement.
  • Well‑organised and able to work autonomously but willing to seek guidance where appropriate and to demonstrate a track record of successful claims management and client appreciation.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of issues which affect TMCM, including finance and regulatory matters.
