We are seeking to appoint a Head of Geography and Business Studies to be the Subject Leader and be responsible for leading, managing, supporting and monitoring the work of the Geography & Business Studies Department team to secure effective leadership and management of the department and high standards of staff performance. To be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in ensuring equality of opportunity for all and being accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct.
About the Role
- Permanent, full time teaching hours, 52 weeks per year.
- To lead our Geography & Business Studies Department.
- To develop a creative, engaging and consistent approach to teaching within the department which reflects the curriculum and new specifications.
- To lead and develop the quality of teaching and learning.
- To ensure curriculum provision and developments are appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated and are in accordance with academy policy and any national or local guidance.
- To raise standards of student attainment, achievement and behaviour for learning within the department.
- To be accountable for promoting, monitoring and supporting pupil progress and development within the department.
- To improve the provision for all learners in the subject area.
- To develop transition programme where appropriate.

- Deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group/subject/s that you teach.
- Be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes and pastoral arrangements as appropriate.
- Do all you can to ensure that, as a result of your teaching (and tutoring), your students achieve well relative to their prior attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally and in the Academy.
- Be aware of pupils’ prior knowledge and plan teaching and scaffold appropriately to build on this demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn.

- Relevant Subject Degree at BA or above.
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Evidence of applying continued professional development.
- Understanding of the current curriculum discussions within your subject.
- The ability to quickly establish positive relationships with pupils and parents.
- A thorough up to date knowledge of the range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and how to implement them effectively.
- Well-motivated, enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.
