We are seeking to appoint a Head of Geography and Business Studies to be the Subject Leader responsible for leading, managing, supporting and monitoring the work of the Geography & Business Studies Department team to secure effective leadership, high standards of staff performance and optimal learning outcomes for all pupils.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, support and monitor the departmental team to ensure effective leadership and high staff performance.
- Develop a creative, engaging and consistent teaching approach reflecting the curriculum and new specifications.
- Lead and develop the quality of teaching and learning within the department.
- Ensure curriculum provision is broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated and in line with academy policy and national/local guidance.
- Raise standards of student attainment, achievement and behaviour.
- Promote, monitor and support pupil progress and development.
- Improve provision for all learners in the subject area.
- Develop the transition programme where appropriate.
- Stay invested in the subject, continually developing professionally.
- Deliver curriculum relevant to the age and ability group you teach.
- Prepare and develop teaching materials, programmes and pastoral arrangements.
- Ensure students achieve well relative to prior attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar students nationally and in the Academy.
- Plan teaching and scaffold progress, demonstrating knowledge of how pupils learn.
Qualifications
- Relevant subject degree at B.A. level or higher.
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Understanding of current curriculum discussions within the subject.
- Ability to quickly establish positive relationships with pupils and parents.
- Comprehensive knowledge of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and their effective implementation.
- Well‑motivated, enthusiastic, with a can‑do attitude.
