Overview

We are seeking an experienced and self‑sufficient Lighting No.1 to oversee all lighting and electrical elements for World’s Greatest Lover. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the lighting design, operating the lighting console during performances, and ensuring safe and efficient rigging and operation of all LX equipment. As this is a one‑person department, a proactive and self‑reliant approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the lighting console for all performances, ensuring consistent delivery of the original design.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all lighting equipment including lanterns, dimmers, effects, and data networks.
  • Carry out daily checks, focusing, plotting updates, and maintenance as required.
  • Implement and maintain cueing, colour, and focus information as per the lighting documentation.

Get‑In, Fit‑Up & Get‑Out

  • Lead the lighting fit‑up and get‑out, including rigging, patching, and system testing.
  • Oversee or carry out the focus of all lighting fixtures, ensuring accuracy and safety.

Teamwork

  • Oversee the training of the Technical ASM as cover when necessary.
  • Liaise with the Lighting Designer or Associate to maintain design integrity throughout the production.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager, Company Stage Manager, and other departments to ensure efficient get‑in and tech set‑up.
  • Coordinate with sound and technical teams on shared rigging, cabling, and power distribution.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain up‑to‑date lighting documentation including cue sheets, rig plans, and maintenance logs.
  • Ensure all lighting equipment is PAT tested and used in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Report and track any issues, damage, or required repairs to the Production Manager.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience as Head of Lighting or No.1 LX in a professional theatre setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of digital lighting desks (e.g. ETC Ion/Gio, Avolites, etc.) and proficient in rigging, focusing, DMX networking, and fault‑finding under pressure.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, particularly in get‑in/get‑out situations.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with other departments.
  • Calm, adaptable, and professional in a fast‑paced environment.

Other Information

  • Evening and weekend work will be required in line with the performance schedule.
  • Manual handling and working at height (e.g. ladders, access equipment) are part of this role.
