Skylab is a digital agency specialising in digital strategy and web software development. We are looking for an experienced Senior UX / UI Designer with a passion for digital to join us. This is a key role as part of the senior team at Skylab, working closely with lead and senior developers, digital strategists, senior project managers and account directors.
Founded in 2005, we are now firmly established as one of the leading digital innovation agencies in the country and were voted one of the UK’s top ten Future Leaders by Creative England, out of a field of over 500 creative businesses.
We are based near Media City in Trafford Park Village, Manchester and we are growing our team, delivering work on behalf of key clients on multi-year projects.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
UX Responsibilities
- Be the authority for user experience within the agency, owning and defining all the processes and deliverables for UX.
- Conduct interviews and workshops with real users to gain insight and establish user needs.
- Conduct user tests to evaluate existing products or services and review the success of new prototypes.
- Use a blend of qualitative and quantitative measures to develop user insights and steer the direction of our projects.
- Work alongside our digital strategists to develop information architecture, user journeys, wireframes and prototypes.
- Include our clients in the decision-making process.
- Ensure that the user is considered throughout the project lifecycle.
- Continuously improve and expand our UX services portfolio.
Design Responsibilities
- Create design assets including responsive user interfaces.
- Create in-page assets such as imagery and infographics for websites and applications etc.
- Have a good understanding of HTML & CSS, Bootstrap and experience with WordPress.
- Work in collaboration with our developers to ensure design assets are handed over to the development team efficiently.
- Advocate a mobile-first design approach.
- Continuously improve our design toolset with a view to improving collaboration and efficiency across the team and our clients.
- Support Skylab’s sales and marketing teams, designing concepts for tenders, creating marketing materials for our various channels, including events and social media.
Skills and experience
- Have a user-centric philosophy.
- Experienced at working in a fast-paced digital agency environment or with digital product development teams.
- Self-managing.
- Strong creative skills.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Strong wireframe, prototype and design skills using industry standard tools.
- Are a great communicator.
- Have line-managed or coached other team members.
- Show commitment, tenacity, a positive attitude, an open-minded approach and the ability to learn and adapt to changes that may arise via clients, team members or new evidence.
- Comfortable running client-facing workshops to elicit requirements.
- Regularly attend events to learn about the fields of UX, design and digital product development.
- It is not essential but it would be beneficial if you had complementary creative skills, such as motion graphics, video production or photography.
