Empower Education Beyond the Classroom.

We are looking for a dynamic and driven individual to champion Outdoor Education and Curriculum Development at our school where learning goes far beyond four walls.

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with teachers and curriculum leads to design and deliver exciting, inclusive learning experiences in nature. You will take the lead in planning, preparing, and delivering outdoor education across the school, and play a crucial role in shaping students’ preparation for adulthood.

Your influence will extend to supervising and supporting other staff, fostering community partnerships, growing our two forest schools, and exploring funding opportunities to bring bold ideas to life.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Outdoor Learning: Plan and run engaging, curriculum‑aligned outdoor activities that spark curiosity and personal growth.
  • Develop Accreditation Pathways: Help students gain recognised alternative and vocational qualifications.
  • Empower Staff: Deliver training to boost confidence and skills in outdoor and inclusive education.
  • Engage with the Community: Build partnerships with local organisations to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Drive Innovation: Explore funding opportunities to support creative, impactful programmes.

About the School

Thomas Ashton School, part of the New Bridge Multi‑Academy Trust, is a rapidly improving SEMH specialist school in Tameside, Greater Manchester. The school is expanding and is projected to grow to 120 pupils, aged 6‑14, by September 2026. It operates two sites: Bennett Street, Hyde, and Lumb Lane, Audenshaw.

The school is a registered Thrive School, uses trauma‑informed approaches, and has been awarded an ArtsMark Silver accreditation for its commitments to the arts.

Requirements

Due to the complex nature of our pupils, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are required when dealing with challenging behaviour and complex needs. Applicants should bring a passion for outdoor education, strong organisational skills, and the ability to inspire staff and students.

EEO Statement

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share the same commitment. This post will be subject to pre‑employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK. The role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
