Thomas Ashton School (both sites) is looking to recruit a Care Team Worker for permanent or fixed‑term roles. The role commences 1st September 2026. Salary: NJC scale points 12–17 (£28,598‑£31,022 per annum full‑time equivalent). Actual salary £21,683‑£23,521 per annum. SEN Allowance £1,539 per annum. Location: Thomas Ashton School (Upper) Bennett Street, Hyde SK14 4SS or Lower Lumb Lane, Audenshaw, M34 5SF. Working hours 32.5 hours per week (TTO) plus 5 days (195 days). Status: Permanent / Fixed Term.
Responsibilities:
- Play a key role in supporting behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding systems on‑site.
- Work closely with pastoral staff to support and encourage them in their work.
- Work closely with students, parents, staff and external agencies.
- Form excellent, trusting relationships with SEMH students and their families.
- Develop your and others’ understanding of behaviour, zones of regulation, restorative culture and trauma awareness.
- Uphold Unconditional Positive Regard as a central ethos.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience of planning and developing interventions to support reluctant learners.
- A strong desire to ensure young people who have often had negative education experiences develop their skills and knowledge to the best of their ability.
- Ability to provide specialist support to enable pupils to engage in the classroom and across the wider school community.
- Previous experience working with school‑age young people who may present with challenging behaviour and complex SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
- A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
- The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non‑judgemental approach.
- Knowledge and experience in supporting staff to develop excellent classroom practice that fosters positive behaviour for learning.
- The ability to support teaching and learning within an SEMH setting to a dedicated group of students.
- Understanding and experience of developing, implementing and reviewing individual behaviour support plans and positive strategies.
- The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to care for the general welfare of students.
- The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed.
- Willingness to participate in own professional development.
