The HR Advisor is responsible for the effective day-to-day delivery of HR within their allocated area, providing professional and practical advice to managers and employees and ensuring Company policies, procedures and employment practices are applied fairly and consistently.

Working collaboratively across the HR function, the post holder will support Company-wide HR priorities and take a proactive approach to employment legislation, regulatory, ethical and customer requirements, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and practical HR advice and guidance to managers and employees across all areas of HR.
  • Manage and advise on employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance, escalating complex or higher-risk matters where appropriate.
  • Develop, review and implement HR policies, procedures and employment documentation, ensuring they remain legally compliant and appropriate for the business.
  • Proactively monitor employment legislation, regulatory requirements and HR best practice, identifying forthcoming changes and ensuring appropriate actions are implemented.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant customer Codes of Practice, Sedex, EcoVadis and other employment-related requirements, working with the Chief Operating Officer and CSR to support ongoing compliance and ensure relevant information is kept up to date.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, support and coordinate the HR requirements for ethical audits, including preparation, participation and follow-up of any corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the requirements relating to labour providers, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable legislation, Company and customer requirements, with guidance from the Chief Operating Officer where required.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of Skilled Worker visa and sponsor licence requirements, managing the sponsorship application process and ongoing administration of sponsored employees and ensuring relevant monitoring, record-keeping and reporting requirements are met.
  • Ensure applicable HR-related statutory and government reporting requirements are completed accurately and within required timescales.
  • Support employee engagement, performance management, wellbeing and retention initiatives.
  • Oversee HR administration, systems and employee records, ensuring information and documentation are accurate, compliant and appropriately maintained.
  • Build positive and credible relationships with managers and employees, maintaining a visible and professional HR presence.

  • Compliance with statutory reporting, sponsor licence, customer and ethical requirements.
  • Effective support and coordination of HR requirements for ethical audits and completion of associated actions.
  • Accurate and timely HR documentation, systems, reporting and employee records.
  • Strong and credible working relationships with managers and employees.
  • Effective delivery of agreed HR projects, initiatives and continuous improvements.
  • Effective collaboration and support across the HR function and Company sites.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong generalist HR knowledge and experience, ideally within manufacturing, food manufacturing or a similarly fast-paced environment.
  • Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance.
  • Experience developing and applying HR policies, procedures and employment documentation.
  • Experience of HR systems, employee records and workforce reporting.
  • Good understanding of data protection and confidentiality requirements relating to employee information.
  • Knowledge of Skilled Worker visa and sponsor licence requirements, or experience supporting employee sponsorship processes, would be advantageous.
  • Awareness of ethical employment, customer requirements and labour provider compliance would be advantageous.

Education / Qualifications

  • CIPD qualification, working towards a CIPD qualification, or equivalent relevant HR knowledge and experience is desirable.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and maintaining current knowledge of employment law and HR practice.

Hours of Work

  • Full-time contractual hours are 40 hours per week, with normal working hours anticipated to be 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
