ROLE SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Engineering Lead to lead a dynamic team of software engineers, data scientists and machine learning specialists. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of software development and data science, guiding and mentoring a cross-functional team while promoting engineering best practices and setting standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with experience in software engineering, machine learning, and cloud platforms, as well as a passion for the high-paced startup environment, autonomy and ownership, and building, developing, and scaling high-performing teams. Experience in marketing/MarTech/AdTech and panels will set you apart in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical Leadership & Best Practices: Set technical best practices, balancing pace of delivery with quality, scalability and productivity. Advocate and implement processes and practices for writing high-quality code and conducting thorough code reviews. Drive technical decision-making, balancing the needs of the business with technical feasibility and performance. Set and own the engineering roadmap in collaboration with the CEO. Lead on embedding an AI-first approach to development and user features.
  • Hands-on building: Understand how to use your time most effectively and get stuck into building features and adding value to our product where that’s relevant. You’ll be hands-on at approximately 30-40% of your time in the early months at a minimum. Support the team in refinements, reviews and unblock work by taking direct action.
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring: Lead a diverse team of engineers (software + machine learning) and data scientists, ensuring team members are well-supported in their growth and development. Provide mentorship, guidance, and feedback to team members to help them improve both technically and professionally. Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, trust, and continuous improvement within the team. Define and hire for future roles across your teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, managers, members of the insights and paid media teams, and the sales team to deliver on project goals and deadlines. Serve as the key point of contact between your team and other departments (e.g., Sales, Finance/Ops, People, Insight, Paid Media). Translate commercial goals into technical priorities. Support the alignment of technical strategies with business goals and customer needs.
  • Project & Delivery Management: Oversee the planning and execution of technical projects, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality software and ML models. With support from the product function, enable your team to deliver projects through agile and kanban methodologies. Collaborate with the product team and leadership to prioritise and manage the team’s backlog. Identify and mitigate risks, removing obstacles to enable the team to meet deadlines and project goals.
  • Technology & Architecture: Provide guidance on the tech stack, ensuring effective use of Node.js, React, Angular, Databases, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and other relevant technologies. Contribute to the design and architecture of both software and machine learning solutions, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance. Continuously evaluate new tools, technologies, and processes to improve team efficiency and product quality. Set best practices for AI and agentic tooling and integrations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Essential: Expertise in Typescript, Expertise with NodeJS and ReactJS, Experience managing small engineering teams (currently 4 people), Experience with Python, Expertise with a cloud service provider like GCP, Experience in early-stage, high-growth startup environments, Experience growing lean engineering teams (from 4 to 10 engineers), Experience building AI (LLM)-integrated software.
  • Desirable: Previous founding (or first few hires) experience, Experience facilitating agile SCRUM methodology with sprints, Experience managing and growing data science and machine learning teams, Experience or interest in the creator economy, Background in B2B SaaS and/or enterprise software, Experience building MarTech, AdTech, panel or measurement products, Experience working with marketing science, campaign analytics, or panel data.

KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong communication ability with engineers and commercial stakeholders.
  • Ability to reliably manage complex cross-team projects.
  • Commercial understanding (an ability to engage with commercial stakeholders and translate decisions into technical requirements and timeline estimates).
  • You understand marketing measurement as both a data and a business problem.
  • You have a passion for AI and agentic workflows.
