The UK Mission Critical Communications (MCC) finance team provide support to all functional areas of the UK business and ensures regular review of financial information including key financial metrics. The Project Finance Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial performance and compliance of defence programs operating under UK Competitive and Single Source regulations. This position is responsible for monitoring project plans, analysing financial data, and providing earned value insights to drive informed decision-making. The role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, can operate independently with minimal supervision, and is motivated to be an integral part of a high-performing team delivering complex programs.

Due to the nature of the small finance team, the role will allow opportunity to learn responsibilities outside of project reporting.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Supporting financial reporting across both single source and non-single source programs.
  • Serve as the resident expert on UK programs reporting for contracts governed by the Single Source Contract Regulations (SSCR), including Defense Contract Analysis and Reporting System (DefCARS) requirements.
  • Partner with Program Managers and Finance leadership to review Estimates at Completion (EAC) monthly and present findings at program reviews.
  • Deliver comprehensive financial metrics, including Earned Value Management (EVM), to measure and communicate project performance.
  • Proactively scrutinise cost/hours charged to the program to ensure performance in line with gross margin expectations.
  • Support project plan execution and ongoing monitoring from both financial and operational perspectives, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition and gross margins are in line with budget each month.
  • Develop bid and pricing packs when required – this element of the job will grow with the business.
  • Internal/external audit support as required. Contribute to ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as business needs evolve.

What you’ll bring

We are seeking an experienced Project Finance Analyst with a proven background supporting complex projects through robust forecasting, project performance analysis, and financial control. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working as a Project Finance Analyst within a project-based environment.
  • Extensive experience producing and maintaining project forecasts, including Estimates at Completion (EACs), Estimates to Complete (ETCs), and long-range project financial projections.
  • Strong understanding of project financial performance measurement, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Experience analysing project risks and opportunities and assessing their impact on forecast cost, revenue, margin, and cash performance.
  • Proven ability to develop financial models that support project planning, forecasting, and performance management.
  • Experience supporting project lifecycle reviews, forecasting cycles, and project governance processes.
  • Ability to challenge forecast assumptions using actual project performance data and emerging project trends.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to identify performance drivers and explain forecast movements clearly and accurately.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Oracle or PeopleSoft would be advantageous.
