The role

At Orbit, we focus on applying the principles of Plan, Do, Check, Act to everything we do. This means that our Property Safety team is at the leading edge of best practice in the Housing Sector. Over the years, we have won numerous national awards, including being the first national Housing Provider to achieve the combination of holding the RoSPA Gold award for Customer Safety and BS9997 accredited. This role is part of Property where you’ll help us to lead the way investing and maintaining 46,000 homes.

What you’ll achieve

  • The Safer Buildings Lead at Orbit will project manage and implement changes across Orbit to ensure that we lead the sector in building safety and provide a risk management platform for everything from safety case files through to competency frameworks.
  • The role will see the postholder own the project delivery of non-Golden Thread building safety matters, working across the business and wider sector to deliver our strategic plans and objectives.
  • You will provide expert advice on emerging legislation and guidance and ensure that our building safety processes are robust and continuously improving.
  • Apply the principles of BS9997 across all our activities on building safety.
  • Build and maintain a dynamic building safety strategy.
  • Accountable for the delivery of project objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Ownership of the final plan for activities relating to building safety.
  • Guide our procurement and contract delivery activities to ensure our contractor network delivers the highest building safety standards.
  • Provide expert advice on emerging legislation.
  • Build and manage relationships with procurement consortia, consultants, contractors, statutory authorities, and other public bodies.
  • Report on monthly, quarterly, and annual performance.
  • Review resilience and risk factors to ensure robustness in our building safety processes.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree educated in a property related subject, have a relevant professional qualification or be qualified by experience.
  • National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • Sound technical knowledge of fire safety, asbestos, building services including gas, mechanical and electrical services.
  • People management and development experience.
