Join to apply for the Senior Software Engineer role at Thirdfort. We’re on a mission to protect society from fraud and money laundering. We’ve already protected over 3 million people through life’s big transactions. Fraud and regulation are rising, costing the UK economy over £100bn every year; this makes it more difficult for businesses to protect themselves and their clients—individuals like you and me—from fraud and money laundering.

Our co‑founders Olly and Jack were motivated by a client’s defrauding of £25K when buying their first property, highlighting the lack of adequate anti‑fraud technology. At Thirdfort, we help businesses facilitate anti‑fraud checks so that individuals can transact safely and seamlessly with professionals such as lawyers, estate agents and accountants. Our platform offers secure, app‑based document checks, facial recognition and open banking, and over 1,500 businesses now trust us.

About the Role: We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross‑functional product team and help build reliable, scalable systems that protect our customers and their clients from fraud. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys owning problems end‑to‑end, working closely with Product and Design, and growing their technical depth and impact.

About the Team: Our engineering teams are remote‑first, mixed‑discipline product teams comprising backend, frontend and mobile engineers, working closely with Product Managers, Designers and other stakeholders. We focus on delivering value in small, iterative increments, balancing speed with quality and long‑term maintainability.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Design, build and ship well‑tested features across our platform with support from more senior engineers.
  • Take ownership of user stories from refinement through to production and post‑release support.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to understand problems and translate requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to improving code quality through reviews and refactoring.
  • Participate in incident investigation and support, helping to improve system reliability and observability over time.
  • Continuously develop your technical skills and broaden your understanding of the wider system.
  • Contribute positively to our engineering culture by sharing knowledge, asking questions and supporting your teammates.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You have experience building and shipping production software as part of a team.
  • You’re comfortable working with at least one modern backend or frontend language (e.g., Go, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python).
  • You understand core engineering fundamentals such as APIs, data modelling, testing and version control.
  • You enjoy solving problems end‑to‑end and taking responsibility for your work.
  • You can communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • You’re happy working in a fast‑moving environment where requirements may evolve as we learn more.

We use and teach:

  • Go for backend services
  • TypeScript and React for web applications
  • React Native for mobile applications
  • Temporal for workflow orchestration
  • PostgreSQL for relational data
  • GCP for infrastructure, monitoring and analytics

Life at Thirdfort: Our culture promotes collaboration and open communication, giving Team members ownership, impact and empowerment. We recognise that a one‑size‑fits‑all approach rarely works and aim to provide flexible work arrangements and support for individual needs.

Our Benefits: Security‑first focus, extending to physical, mental and financial security. When you join Thirdfort, you’ll get immediate access to our flexible employee benefits package that aims to support you across these areas:

  • Compensation – £70k‑£100k p.a. base salary
  • Flexible working hours
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Work‑from‑home allowance
  • Uncapped annual leave
  • Enhanced sick leave
  • Private healthcare with AXA
  • Regular company and team socials
  • Uncapped budget for personal development
  • Share options for all UK employees
  • Customisable wellness budget and discounts via partner

Adjustments & Diversity: We’re committed to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse culture where everyone has a chance to make a difference. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please let your Talent Manager know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analysing resumes or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
