We’re on a mission to protect society from fraud and money laundering. We’ve already protected over 3 million people through life’s big transactions. Fraud and regulation are rising, costing the UK economy over £100bn every year; this makes it more difficult for businesses to protect themselves and their clients from fraud and money laundering. Our co-founders were led to this area when a friend was defrauded of £25K when buying their first property. At the time, anti-fraud technology didn’t exist, which meant that completing the anti-fraud checks required in these processes was largely manual. These big life moments should be exciting, but instead are often confusing and scary due to the painful process of completing these paper-based checks and the risk of fraud. Thirdfort helps businesses to facilitate these anti-fraud checks so that individuals know they can transact safely and seamlessly with professionals during these big transactions. Our anti-fraud platform provides a secure way for professionals in regulated sectors like Lawyers, Estate Agents and Accountants to transfer funds and verify sensitive information through app-based document checks, facial recognition and open banking. Over 1,500 businesses now trust Thirdfort to verify their clients. We are FCA regulated and have raised over $33m in capital from leading Fintech investors.

About the role: We’re looking for a Tech Lead (IC4) to join one of our product teams and provide strong technical leadership. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, owning technical direction within a domain, and helping other engineers grow through mentorship and example. You will play a key role in shaping how we design, build, and evolve our systems, while working closely with Product, Design, and other engineering leaders. You won’t be responsible for line management, but you will be expected to set direction, raise standards, and take ownership of the technical outcomes for your area. For this role, we'd love this person to be able to join us in our London office 2 days per week, being together as a team is valuable for us, especially at this stage of growth.

About the team: Our engineering teams are cross-functional product teams, made up of engineers with different specialisms working closely with Product Managers, Designers and stakeholders across the business. We focus on delivering value iteratively while maintaining a high bar for quality, security and reliability. Our ways of working continue to evolve - blending elements of Scrum, Shape Up and continuous delivery and we expect senior engineers to actively influence and improve how we operate.

As a Tech Lead, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership within your team and domain, guiding design decisions and architectural direction.
  • Design, build and deliver complex features and systems that are secure, scalable and maintainable.
  • Own technical outcomes end-to-end, from discovery and design through to delivery and long-term operation.
  • Lead by example in AI-assisted software engineering, using AI to accelerate delivery while maintaining strong engineering judgement and accountability for the resulting software.
  • Help the team continuously improve its AI-enabled development practices and identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering work.
  • Represent Engineering at an organisational level, partnering with stakeholders across Product, Sales, Marketing, Support, Operations, Legal and Compliance to shape decisions, manage trade-offs and drive successful technical outcomes.
  • Mentor and coach engineers across the team, supporting their technical growth and confidence.
  • Set a high bar for code quality, testing, observability and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to shape solutions, challenge assumptions and manage trade-offs.
  • Lead technical discussions, reviews and incident investigations, helping the team learn and improve.
  • Contribute to wider engineering initiatives and influence standards across the technology organisation.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You actively use AI-assisted engineering tools in your development workflow and can demonstrate how they have improved the way you design, build, test or maintain software.
  • You have significant experience building and operating production software in a modern engineering environment.
  • You’ve led technical design and delivery for complex systems or domains.
  • You’re comfortable working across backend and frontend systems (for example Go, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python).
  • You have strong knowledge of APIs, data modelling, testing strategies and system design.
  • You enjoy mentoring other engineers and leading through influence rather than authority.
  • You can communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You’re comfortable working in a fast-moving, regulated environment where quality and trust are critical.

We use and teach: We’re passionate about supporting your growth and giving you opportunities to work across the stack. Depending on the team, you’ll work with and help shape:

  • Go for backend services
  • TypeScript and React for web applications
  • React Native for mobile applications
  • Temporal for workflow orchestration
  • PostgreSQL for relational data
  • GCP for infrastructure, monitoring and analytics
  • AI-assisted engineering tools and coding agents to help us design, build, test, review and maintain software more effectively.

Our Benefits: We've created our benefits package to reflect Thirdfort's mission and values. Everything we do is designed to build on trust, and we extend this promise to our team by investing in their physical, mental, and financial security to support them through life's big moments. Ultimately, our benefits exist to empower our people, ensuring everyone feels deeply supported, trusted, and equipped to do their best work.

When you join Thirdfort, you'll get immediate access to our employee benefits package that aims to support you across these areas:

  • Compensation: £100,000 + Share options for all UK employees
  • Annual leave allowance of 26 days, increasing to 30 with tenure and the option to buy additional days
  • Uncapped personal development budget
  • Flexible working hours
  • Private healthcare (AXA)
  • Enhanced parental and sick leave

We're committed to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse culture where everyone has a chance to make a difference. We're purposefully building a team of problem-solvers that reflect our values, which is why we hire from all backgrounds. If you're a curious, kind individual who takes ownership, you'll be a great Thirdforter.

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please let your dedicated Talent Partner know and we'll do our best to accommodate.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
