We are partnering with one of Europe’s most prestigious wealth managers. Backed by a globally renowned private banking group with deep heritage and stability, our client manages several billion in assets across the UK. As part of a major technology modernisation push, they are appointing a Senior Platform Engineer to drive the technical design, evolution, and automation of their enterprise Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes platform ecosystem. This is a senior, high-impact mandate offering significant technical ownership over infrastructure-as-code, GitOps-driven delivery, and modern platform engineering standards within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Roadmap Execution: Serve as a hands-on technical lead within the Platform & Infrastructure practice, driving the execution of the firm’s enterprise cloud and platform roadmap.
- Cloud & Platform Architecture: Design, provision, and maintain a resilient, secure, and scalable Azure cloud estate spanning core compute, software-defined networking, storage, identity, and governance guardrails.
- Delivery Automation & GitOps: Architect and optimise enterprise CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure delivery using GitLab, Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps-aligned release patterns.
- Engineering Standards & Guardrails: Establish reusable platform components, reference architectures, and golden paths to accelerate application delivery while enforcing strict regulatory, security, and compliance baselines.
- Cross-Functional Modernisation: Partner closely with solutions architects, application engineering teams, and Group infrastructure counterparts to lead cloud adoption, microservice migration, and operational readiness.
- Observability & Operational Resilience: Drive end-to-end telemetry and observability initiatives across the platform estate, utilising centralised logging and metrics to ensure high availability and performance.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce production-grade technical artifacts, architectural diagrams, runbooks, and implementation blueprints to continuously raise internal engineering standards.
Candidate Profile
- Senior Platform Expertise: Demonstrated track record in a Senior Platform, Infrastructure, or Cloud Engineering role, with prior experience in financial services or similarly regulated enterprise settings strongly preferred.
- Azure Foundation: Deep practical mastery of Microsoft Azure architecture, covering core infrastructure services, IAM/Entra ID, network security policies, landing zones, and cloud governance frameworks.
- Infrastructure as Code: Advanced Terraform capabilities, with proven ability to build clean, modular, and reusable IaC templates to manage cloud and hybrid infrastructure.
- Containers & Orchestration: Solid hands-on proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm; sound understanding of declarative configuration management and automated environment promotion.
- CI/CD & Pipeline Design: Production experience designing, hardening, and automating continuous integration and delivery pipelines using GitLab CI or comparable platforms.
- Automation & Scripting: Strong shell automation skills (PowerShell, Bash) alongside practical coding capability in a modern language such as Python or Go, with expert use of YAML.
- Observability Tooling: Experience implementing monitoring, tracing, and logging stacks using Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent enterprise tools.
- Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate technical risk, architecture decisions, and operational standards to both technical peers and cross-functional leadership.
