We are inviting applications from experienced Consultant Cardiologists to provide remote triage, clinical leadership, and educational support within a cardiology service. The role is designed to ensure timely, evidence-based management of referrals, support clinical teams, and contribute to service quality improvement.

Scope of Work

  • Triage: Remotely triage 250–350 referrals per month, ensuring timely and clinically appropriate decision-making. Meet service standards of:
    • 95% urgent referrals triaged within 2 working days
    • 95% routine referrals triaged within 6 working days
  • Clinical Advice and Guidance: Provide expert responses to 10–20 cardiology-related queries per month from GPs and diagnostic teams, with turnaround within 1 working day.
  • Clinical Leadership: Act as Clinical Lead (approximately 1–2 hours per month) by:
    • Offering clinical oversight and advice on patient cases
    • Guiding service management on best practice and guideline implementation
    • Contributing to service development and improvement initiatives
  • Audit and Governance: Conduct quarterly clinical audits (3–4 hours per quarter) on selected service activities, feeding findings into clinical governance processes.
  • Education: Deliver education webinars (1–2 per year) for primary care referrers, focused on improving referral quality and supporting condition management in community settings.

Professional Requirements

  • Current registration on the GMC Specialist Register (Cardiology)
  • Appropriate clinical indemnity cover
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications and training
  • Compliance with mandatory vaccination requirements
  • Completion of required statutory and mandatory training modules

Person Specification

  • Proven consultant-level experience in cardiology with an interest in service development and clinical governance
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support and educate GP referrers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical effectiveness
