  • Datastores & analytics: Postgres on Azure, DuckDB, and data connectors into/out of our platform
  • Frontend: Next.js + React powering embedded analytics experiences

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on Azure serverless experience and comfort running real production systems
  • Python backend skills for building and extending serverless APIs
  • Strong SQL skills (optimising queries, reading plans, using materialized views/indexes)
  • Experience designing and integrating with data connectors/pipelines (file, API, or DB sources)
  • Experience deploying LLM-based agents or ML-driven agents within cloud environments.
  • Pragmatic React/Next.js skills to land small UI changes that deliver big user value
  • Solid engineering practices: CI/CD, testing, observability, scalability, and security. Clear communication is key.

Nice to have

  • DuckDB experience (or similar columnar/OLAP tools)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (Bicep/Terraform), Azure security (Key Vault/MSI), and multi-tenant know-how
  • Familiarity with data extraction or transformation pipelines.
  • Domain curiosity around invoices, contracts, telecom/IT spend

Impact in your first 90 days

  • Ship 1–2 measurable performance wins
  • Stabilise workflows with better observability and back-pressure

How to prepare for a job interview at Thinking Machine

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Thinking Machine uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
