Senior Employment Counsel

Part Time | Hybrid | North of England

The Company

Our client is a well-established, international business with a strong market position and a collaborative, commercially focused legal team. They are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and operate across the UK.

The in-house legal function is well-regarded internally and works closely with senior leadership across the business on a wide range of matters. This is a business that takes its legal and people-related obligations seriously and invests in quality advice.

The Opportunity

This is a senior, part-time in-house role created specifically around flexibility, autonomy and meaningful employment law work. It is a genuine opportunity for an experienced employment lawyer to operate at a senior level without compromising on the quality or influence of the work.

Reporting to a senior member of the leadership team, you will be the lead employment law specialist for the business β€” advising on employment law, people-related legal risk and organisational matters, and working alongside an established group of commercial lawyers in a supportive, collaborative environment.

The Role

Working closely with senior leaders and the People function, your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on employment law matters, employee relations, policies and related legal risk across the business
  • Supporting policy development, employment documentation and organisational design
  • Embedding clear, practical employment law advice into business decision making at a senior level
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel where specialist support is appropriate
  • Acting as a trusted and pragmatic advisor to senior stakeholders on sensitive legal and people-related matters

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • To be a qualified solicitor in England and Wales with at least 5 years PQE in employment law
  • Strong experience across a broad range of advisory employment law matters
  • The confidence and credibility to advise at senior leadership level on sensitive and complex issues
  • A pragmatic, commercial and solutions-focused approach
  • In-house or regulated financial services experience would be an advantage but is not essential

Key Attractions

  • A genuinely senior part-time role designed around flexibility from the outset, not adapted from a full-time position
  • Direct exposure to senior management and strategic people and legal decision making
  • The opportunity to shape how employment law support is delivered across an established business
  • Varied, high quality work within a collaborative and commercially minded legal team
  • Hybrid working with genuine flexibility on days and pattern
