We are seeking a skilled and motivated Generator Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair of diesel generators, with a background in hybrid systems, Solar PV, and generators. Alternatively, we will consider individuals with a strong engineering or electrical background who can quickly develop knowledge of our systems.
In addition to generator engineering duties, the role will also involve supporting and carrying out site installations, including welfare and accommodation setups, temporary power and water connections, and site demobilisation activities. You will ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and industry standards. A full UK driving license is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair diesel generators.
- Conduct routine servicing and inspections according to maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical, electrical, and control panel repairs.
- Commission new equipment and perform load testing and performance checks.
- Maintain accurate service records and complete job sheets and documentation.
- Respond to breakdowns, providing effective and timely solutions.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out full site installations including welfare and accommodation units.
- Assist in the positioning of welfare and accommodation units using cranes.
- Install various site welfare setups in different site configurations.
- Establish temporary water connections from mains water or external water sources.
- Establish temporary power connections using 16amp, 32amp, and 63amp fly leads (plug-and-play systems).
- Disconnect and demobilise welfare, water, and power systems from site.
- Read and interpret Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Lift Plans, technical drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Brief installation teams on site-specific requirements and safe systems of work.
- Prioritise and rectify site breakdowns relating to power, water, and hybrid systems.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism when representing Think Hire Ltd on customer sites.
- Manage and maintain stock levels of equipment and materials required for daily tasks.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Report daily to the Head of Contract Delivery.
- Proven experience as a Generator Engineer or within a similar mechanical/electrical engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, alternators, and control systems.
- Experience with both single-phase and three-phase systems.
- Understanding of hybrid systems including Solar PV, battery storage, wind turbines, and diesel/LPG generators.
- Experience with programming and configuring hybrid systems.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and site drawings.
- Understanding of site installation procedures and temporary site utilities.
- Experience with remote monitoring and remote system adjustments is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work overtime and travel to sites as required.
- NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Full UK Driving License.
