Specialist Learning Support Assistant for an inclusive further education college in Northamptonshire.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them engage positively with education, develop confidence and make meaningful progress.

You will provide consistent, individualised support while working closely with teaching and pastoral colleagues.

The role As a Specialist Learning Support Assistant, you will

  • Provide specialist one-to-one and small-group support for learners with SEMH needs.
  • Help learners manage their behaviour through calm and appropriate de-escalation strategies.
  • Contribute to individual behaviour and learner support plans.
  • Motivate, mentor and build positive professional relationships with learners.
  • Maintain accurate EHCP and learner-support records.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and progress.
  • Prepare learning resources tailored to individual needs.
  • Support learners in working towards their personal and educational goals.
  • Work closely with teaching, learning-support and pastoral teams.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

About you You will need

  • Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English.
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND, learning difficulties, physical disabilities or behavioural needs.
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour and using de-escalation techniques.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • A patient, resilient and consistent approach.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with teaching and support colleagues.
