Are you an experienced and immediately available Bookkeeper with expertise in Sage and Zero?
We are working with a fantastic client based in Stoke-on-Trent who are seeking a skilled Bookkeeper to join their team on a temporary basis for an initial 2-month period. This is an urgent requirement, so we are looking for a candidate who can start at short notice and hit the ground running.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for managing the company\\\’s financial records with precision and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both Sage and Zero accounting software and will be able to maintain accurate ledgers and complete key month-end processes.
- Processing sales invoices and purchase ledgers, including coding and matching.
- Managing the sales ledger; raising invoices, allocating payments, and chasing outstanding debts.
- Managing the purchase ledger; processing supplier invoices, expenses, and preparing payment runs (BACS/CHAPS).
- Performing bank reconciliations on a daily/weekly basis.
- Processing and reconciling company credit card transactions.
- Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date nominal ledger.
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
- Assisting with the preparation of management accounts.
- Preparing and posting journals (accruals, prepayments, depreciation).
- Reconciling key control accounts.
- Processing payroll (if applicable) or assisting with payroll administration.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Providing general administrative support to the finance function as required.
- Ensuring all financial records are kept accurately and in compliance with company policy.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, ideally within a similar industry.
- Essential: Demonstrable, hands-on experience with Sage 50 and Zero accounting software.
- A solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Experience in preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Immediate availability to start a new temporary contract.
