Why be a Hygiene Operative at THG Nutrition?
This role is critical in ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, internal quality standards, and health and safety protocols. The operative will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning duties, waste management, and facility upkeep on a rotational basis.
As Hygiene Operative, you’ll:
- Core Cleaning & Sanitation:
- Perform scheduled and ad-hoc cleaning tasks across all production lines and processing equipment to meet required standards, verified through sample testing.
- Conduct deep cleaning of all production areas according to the defined schedule.
- Execute high-level cleaning tasks using specialized equipment such as scissor lifts or cherry pickers (training and certification will be provided where necessary).
- Follow correct procedures for stripping down and reassembling equipment for cleaning.
- Complete post-cleaning checks to ensure all tasks have been executed to the required standard.
- Ensure all non-production areas, including canteens, office spaces, restrooms, and changing facilities, are kept clean and hygienic.
- Comply with detailed cleaning schedules and complete checklists for all designated areas.
- Manage the collection and disposal of waste from all areas of the site, including production and facility spaces.
- Operate waste management equipment, such as bailers and compactors, to process recyclable materials and general waste efficiently.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are in good working order at all times.
- Promptly report any equipment faults, safety hazards, incidents, or environmental concerns to the Line Manager.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Strictly adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding Health & Safety, Food Safety (HACCP, BRC standards), Product Quality, and Integrity.
- Ensure all cleaning activities comply with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) instructions for the safe handling and storage of chemicals.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork, including hygiene checklists and cleaning records, to an audit-ready standard.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards, ensuring equipment such as water hoses and cleaning agents are stored correctly and safely.
What skills and experience do I need for this role?
- Previous experience in a hygiene or cleaning role within a manufacturing (preferably food or FMCG) environment is highly desirable.
- Experience as a production line operative with an understanding of factory operations would be an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of Health & Safety and food hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP, COSHH).
- Attention to Detail: A methodical and thorough approach to ensure cleaning tasks meet the highest standards.
- Self-Motivation: The ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and manage time effectively, especially under pressure.
- Communication: Good verbal communication skills to understand technical instructions and report issues clearly.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve departmental objectives.
