Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts – 6am - 2:15pm / 2pm - 10:15pm, 8.15 hour a day, 41.25 hours per week

Based within the Operational division of the business, The Engineering Team is responsible for the complete asset care management across all sites including pro-active and re-active maintenance to ensure that minimum disruption is caused to the business.

About the Role

Reporting to Head of Projects & Engineering, the Engineer the Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) - Shift Lead is responsible for ensuring all reactive and proactive preventative maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to the required level and any impact on production demand is kept to a minimum.

Ensure the scheduling of works is appropriate, raising any purchase orders and ensuring all orders are delivered on time for seamless completion and distributing of works.

As a Maintenance Engineer you will

  • Ensure proactive and reactive maintenance is completed according to priority and in a timely manner.
  • Carry out Fault diagnosis accurately to identify problems with machinery and systems.
  • Support the electrical team as and when required.
  • Abide by and maintain all appropriate workshop regulations, ie. Abrasive wheels and General Workshop Safety
  • Complete all elements of the asset care system (AMS) to ensure it remains effective.
  • Shift handovers are recorded and effective.
  • Maintain consistently high standards in all works and documentation.
  • Maintenance activities are effective and feedback any areas for improvement.
  • Collaboration with Compounding and Production planning is effective.
  • Spares are maintained, ready and available.
  • Ensure yours and your shifts training remains up to date. Co-ordinate with those responsible where necessary.
  • Create, review and submit any documentation via doc control.
  • Communicate with suppliers when parts are required, seeking quotes, raising PO’s and tracking the delivery.
  • Permit issuing with relevant competencies.
  • Schedule proactive and reactive job tickets ensuring workloads are balanced and completed in a timely manner
  • Attend and contribute to the daily Short Interval Control (SIC) meetings
  • Monitor OEE and identify any patterns or trends and identify improvement measures where required.

What skills and experience do I need for this role?

  • Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / ONC / HNC) in Mechanical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering.
  • Proven experience in a similar maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment.
  • Strong Mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with a solid understanding of Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Mechanical Drive and general control systems.
  • Basic electrical skills (e. g., 3ph motor testing, power diagnosis & sensor setup).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and capable of working independently under pressure.
