About the Role

We are seeking freelance telephone interpreters to join our on-demand Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) pool. Our platform connects interpreters instantly with public sector clients requiring immediate, real-time linguistic support. Whether you want to dedicate set hours to on-call queues or simply log on and take calls when you are free, we have a flexible model that fits your schedule.

Priority Languages

  • CRITICAL HIGH PRIORITY (Urgent Need): Pashto, Romanian, and Arabic
  • SECONDARY HIGH PRIORITY: Kurdish (Sorani), Punjabi, Spanish, and Portuguese
  • GENERAL POOL (Ad-hoc): Bengali (Bangladesh), Chinese (Cantonese), French, German, Gujarati, Italian, Lithuanian, Russian, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

What You Will Do

  • Log in to our secure, web-based interpreter portal during your preferred hours.
  • Receive and answer incoming on-demand telephone calls from NHS clinics, emergency services and local councils.
  • Provide clear, accurate consecutive interpreting, keeping connection times fast and professional.

What We Look For

  • Complete spoken fluency in English and at least one of our priority languages.
  • Recognized interpreting credentials (e.g., DPSI, Community Interpreting Level 3 or higher, or equivalent professional experience) are desirable.
  • Prior experience in telephone interpreting (OPI) or call-center environments is highly desirable.
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional during fast-paced or sensitive calls.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Technical Requirements (Home Office Setup)

  • A quiet, private workspace free from background noise (no television, family, or pet sounds).
  • A reliable computer with a secure, hardwired ethernet connection (minimum 15-20 Mbps upload/download; Wi-Fi is not permitted for quality control).
  • A professional USB headset with a noise-canceling microphone.
