Sustainability & Carbon Engineer to join our team at BMJV (Bouygues Murphy Joint Venture) to work on delivering the UK’s longest road tunnel beneath the River Thames, the exciting Lower Thames Crossing project .

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.

LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road.

The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

A day in the life of a Murphy Sustainability & Carbon Engineer

  • Support the successful delivery of the programme's carbon and sustainability objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to collect, analyse, and report carbon and environmental performance information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and carbon performance and support the implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to carbon assessments, reporting, governance, and assurance activities across the programme.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues on carbon, sustainability, and environmental management matters.
  • Support the development and promotion of best-practice approaches to sustainability, carbon management, and continuous improvement.

  • Degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, construction, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, environmental, sustainability, or carbon management roles.
  • Experience working with data, reporting, analysis, or performance management systems.
  • Understanding of sustainability, environmental, or carbon management principles and their application within infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyse information, solve problems, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Experience of carbon accounting, environmental reporting, sustainability management systems, or performance reporting platforms.
  • Experience undertaking or supporting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), whole-life carbon assessments, or similar environmental assessments.
  • Familiarity with standards and frameworks such as PAS 2080, GHG Protocol, RICS Whole Life Carbon, ISO 14001, or equivalent.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring, or coordinating colleagues across teams.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional institution.
