Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work within Applied Engineering in Kentish Town, London. Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplined range of engineering skills, adding value across all our sectors, and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation and design to deliver intelligent, sustainable and economical engineering solutions.

Under the banner of Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Represent the Energy Team (Gas, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture) at internal and external meetings when necessary.
  • Review Scopes of Works provided by Clients at Tender stage, managing and developing the returned Tender submission within the specified time constraints. This includes developing cost resource estimates, execution plans and project programmes.
  • Produce output for the internal design team and interface with external design houses for several Scopes of Works at any given time within an agreed fixed cost and programme.
  • Completion of all design documentation for a given Scope of Work including Electrical design calculation, lighting designs, schedules and drawings; power distribution drawings, earthing drawings, layouts, cable schedules, hook ups and general arrangement drawings.
  • Deliver Electrical design deliverables at differing engineering stages including: Feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction support and advice.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of a quality Electrical Design Package.
  • Liaise with other departments and project teams within the company with respect to design requirements.
  • Undertake site visits and investigations when appropriate.
  • Participate in and manage the successful delivery of all Formal Process Safety Assessments, including DSEAR, HAZID and HAZOP.

  • Degree qualified in Electrical & Electronics, Electrical Power Engineering, Instrumentation or Control Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (or similar) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience of interfacing with Clients such as National Gas Transmission and Cadent and knowledge of their Electrical Specifications and Standards including the G/17 and G/35 design assurance process.
  • Experience with hazardous areas required, with the Application Design Engineer CompEx12 certification preferred.
  • Good understanding of current standards such as Electricity at Work Regulations, CDM, Health & Safety at Work Act and BS7671.
  • Good technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders.
  • Feasibility, conceptual and detailed design experience associated with the development of all aspects of Natural Gas Compressor Stations, Above Ground Installations and Pipelines.
